Site Review: Google Co-Op
Information World Review does a site review of Google Co-op.
Go ahead and read it- then read Dean Giustini’s notes on the Google Health Co-Op:
- Google Co-op Wants Librarian Volunteers – Thumbs Down
- Fawning For Google – Are We Selling Ourselves Short?
In this, as in many things, I think Dean Giustini is asking all the right questions.

David,
MJ Tooey left a very thoughtful message on my blog a while back. The statement that sticks with me is:
MLA’s participation in this PILOT project affords the association an opportunity to learn and experiment with organizational models applied to new types of information environments.
A well-reasoned comment. It’ll be important for MLA to evaluate participation in six months. I believe the task of tagging the semantic web is monumental. Google is going to need to see the importance of funding it, and the health librarian’s expertise in achieving it.
By the way, I have wikied the Google health issue here:

Thanks, Dean!
I’ll look forward to seeing that evaluation of MLA participation in six months, but forgive my cynicism as I worry we won’t see it and worry that the MLA just isn’t doing enough to promote the value of the profession.
