Google vs. PubMed

Dean Giustini has a short post over at the Open Medicine blog on Google vs. PubMed in which he points out some of the problems with using Google or Google Scholar to look for health information.

I agree with everything Dean writes here, but would add that I have been unable to find any clear indication of how frequently Google Scholar refreshes its index of PubMed citations. If one is looking for very recent articles, that’s another reason to skip Google Scholar and go straight to PubMed.

It is also worth clarifying, I think, that Google Scholar doesn’t sort results by PageRankCheck out this excellent recent article for a good explanation of PageRank, but rather sorts them by (among other things) how many times each has been cited in other scholarly articles.
