If you would like to view your physician's current status with the state boards you can access your state health board through the AIM DocFinder available at: http://www.docboard.org/docfinder.html
Once you are at the homepage you will need to navigate to the particular state your physician practices in and each state site is a bit different. Generally there is good information available regarding the physicians such as: Current status of license, specialty and sub-specialty certification, practice location(s), good standing, contact information.

It's nice to see such an interesting and well balanced review of the doctor rating websites. I'm the founder of www.DrScore.com and am a big believer that more doctor rating will be good for doctors and for patients. The more ratings there are, the more representative the scores will be. Doctors can use the feedback to provide better service, and patients will get to see what kind of job doctors are doing. For the most part, the public is going to be pleasantly surprised by how high patients' satisfaction level really is. If any doctor really does have a low score, they'd want to know about it so they could improve. If a doctor with a low score didn't care, the rest of us doctors would want the world to know that!

Some people don't think much of patient satisfaction as a measure of medical quality. It may not be everything, but it certainly is important. Of course we all want the right diagnosis and the right treatment, but in addition to that, patients deserve to be happy with the care they are receiving.

The UK has a similar site called 'I want great care'. These sites worry me.

Can we take a rating system to healthcare? I didn't buy one type of digital radio from Amazon as the ratings were bad. I look at TRIPadvisor before booking a hotel and that frequently guides my choice. So the notion of 'social proof' works for me.

Perhaps the worry with these doctor ratings is the way they are implemented. For instance, hiding behind anonymity seems highly irresponsible.

These clinician rating systems feel more like a technology-led exercise than a meaningful attempt at improving healthcare.
